Suraj Jagan (born in Trichur Kerala), is best known as one of the pioneers of the Indian Rock scene. With a career spanning from 1988 to the present, Suraj has established himself as a versatile singer, with songs ranging from the Stardust award winning ‘Give me some sunshine’ ( 3 Idiots ) & ‘Sadka Kiya’ ( I hate Luv Storys) to rock songs, ‘Zehreelay’ ( Rock On ) , Jaa Chudail ( Delhi Belly ) & India’s introduction to “dub step” , ‘Aafaton Ke Parinde’ from the film Ishaqzaade.
Suraj was the front man of English rock bands like , ‘Krysys’ ( 1989 – 1993), ‘Matchbox’( in Hongkong , 1993 – 1995 ), ‘Chakraview’ ( 1995 – 1997 ) & ‘Dream out Loud’ ( 2007 – 2009 ) and has leant his voice to atleast 260 jingles including the ‘Hutch – You & I’ & ‘Vodafone – Happy To Help’ campaigns.
2012 also saw Suraj Jagan step into the regional film playback arena. He sung the first rock song in a Gujarati film called ‘Pankhida” for the super hit Gujarati film “Kevi Rite Jaish” & has had several Bengali playback hits - including the superhits Pyaar Ka Bhukaar & Nibi Na Sala from the film Challenge 2 .
Suraj has had the great honor of singing for the legendary music composer Ilaiyaraaja in several Trilingual films.
Suraj also had lent his voice to a track for the Indian release of Ang Lee’s Oscar winning film‘Life Of Pi’.
Solo Album – Back To My Future:
Suraj released a solo album in with Saregama , titled ‘Back to My Future’, which comprises of 9 cover versions of old Bollywood songs, completely redone in a rock format. With this album Suraj bridged his two seemingly disparate musical worlds—Bollywood and Rock. All the songs on ‘Back To my Future’ have been a part of his life at some point and have influenced him musically throughout the years.
Suraj Jagan released his latest original, solo album titled “Yeh Lamha” exclusively on Times Music.
The album consists of 2 rock songs and 5 laid back acoustic masterpieces, all composed by Suraj. Already a youth icon, Suraj’s compositions are straight from the heart and yet very contemporary.
The album reflects the growing influence of independent music artists on Bollywood music, resulting in the evolution of a fresh and exciting new sound. It is this sound, that Suraj brings to the album Yeh Lamha.
8th July 2016 : Suraj releases a cover version of the song 'Mana Ho Tum Behad Haseen'
Suraj also acted in the Cult Film 'Rock On' and recently appeared in a cameo in the film 'Hunterr'.
